The target of the EXALTED project (EXPanding LTE for Devices) is to embed M2M communication into the current LTE system concept.
This new approach will require combination of current and emerging wireless access standards like LTE and LTE-A with functional extensions on the PHY and MAC layer protocols, interworking mechanisms, device optimization techniques as well as security and privacy. These functional extensions must support different system requirements without disturbing or limiting the legacy broadband access transmissions. Further, they should be transparent to legacy user equipments (UEs). Also the immunity of M2M communication against UEs operating in legacy modes is a strict requirement. Therefore, contributions supporting the EXALTED approach and enabling M2M communication in addition to legacy functionality will be made to 3GPP and other related standardization bodies.
TST will actively participate in the impact on the capillary network (i.e. WSN) and the gateway to the LTE world with an important contribution to the final demonstrator.
